COOKING.

i've always liked the idea of cooking--i love food, and i try to eat relatively healthily. but i always find excuses not to cook--not enough time, not enough people to cook for, kitchen's too small, etc...
but thanks to one miss casey searles, i've been feeling inspired and empowered in the kitchen! i'm trying to cook more and more each week, and things are turning out pretty well! 2 weeks ago i made a delicious corn/potato/fennel soup, and last week i made a super tasty red lentil/cauliflower curry!

i had the day off today, so cooking was a goal of mine. this morning i made vegan blueberry pancakes:

pretty tasty-looking, huh? they were.

AND i made, as a last salute to summer, some delicious mayo-free coleslaw:

it has red cabbage, shredded carrots, hot banana peppers, black olives, red bell pepper, yellow onion, cilantro, and the dressing was just canola oil, rice vinegar, whole grain mustard, and pepper.

it was de-lightful. and so colorful!

so hooray for cooking! more to come. i'm just getting started... (!)

OK, it's time to get serious...

so i started this blog about a year ago...clearly i've really been attentive to it...

time to start fresh.

this time, i'm going to use it to help me get all my projects and schemes and dreams accomplished. i have at least half a dozen specific projects i really want to get to work on, (eg. thimble jewelry, my apron project, etc...) and an equal number of skills i want to pick up (eg. playing the harmonica, being an awesome cook, etc...)

so i've got a lot on my plate. and because there's SO much i want to do, i sort of end up feeling overwhelmed and avoiding it all and not DOING ANYTHING. time to change that!

i'm going to start posting about all my various projects and things i'm learning--the small ones to the big ones. and THEN hopefully i'll feel motivated and inspired and will sort of be held accountable to actually DO all of this awesome stuff i want to do.

and maybe you guys can help cheer me on, too! :) heh. sound good? alright--

so i'm a little camera obsessed...

well, i guess this is my first blog... weird.

(i'm still getting used to the whole idea of writing and putting it out there for all--or anyone who cares--to see...)

i'll start off with my latest (and greatest!) hobby. i've always, always wanted to learn about photography. always wanted to take a class, but never had the money or the time. it's been one of those things i've continually put on that theoretical list of things i'm eventually going to "get-to."

well, my awesome camera got stolen. (ass hats.) and, by some lovely stroke of luck, i managed to find the identical camera for an unheard of deal at staples. i jumped at the chance to buy it and decided to stop waiting to take a class or to officially learn about photography and just start teaching myself. a guy in my cast who works at best buy showed me a couple of the neat features that i never knew anything about, and since then i've been a little shutter-happy!

here are a few of some of my favorites so far... they're pretty rough but i think i'm starting to understand more and more! any thoughts are MUCH appreciated--i am loving this and want to keep at it!
